Dodgers' Joe Wieland likely candidate to fill in for Hyun-Jin Ryu

|(3/23/15) Dodgers pitcher Joe Wieland is the leading candidate to replace Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) in the starting rotation while Ryu remains sidelined, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Wieland has allowed one run in nine innings this spring while striking out nine. Other options include Mike Bolsinger and Carlos Frias, and the team could fill the rotation hole externally, as the Dodgers remain open to acquiring starting pitching depth for the back end of the rotation.

|(3/16/15) The Dodgers optioned five pitchers to the minor leagues on Monday.
2010 first-rounder RHP Zach Lee, who went 1-0 with one hit allowed in four scoreless innings this spring, was sent down. LHP Chris Reed, who was the first-round pick in 2011, was also sent down. Lee had a 3.00 ERA in two games.
Also on the list of cuts were RHP Mike Bolsinger (2.25 ERA in two spring games), RHP Carlos Frias (5.79 ERA) and RHP Joe Wieland (one hit and three strikeouts in four scoreless innings).

|(2/21/15) Dodgers pitcher Carlos Frias will be treated as a starter in spring training, according to the Orange County Register. He will be stretched out at camp, and is not expected to compete for a bulpen spot.
Frias, 25, made 15 starts (two starts) for the Dodgers in 2014, registering a 6.12 ERA over 32 1/3 innings. He posted a 5.01 ERA, 1.47 WHIP in 91 2/3 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque.

|(9/19/14) Dodgers pitcher Carlos Frias is expected to start Sunday against the Cubs.
Frias is coming off a disaster start Wednesday. He allowed eight runs in just two-thirds of an inning. Frias has a 6.58 ERA over 26 innings.

|(9/17/14) Dodgers pitcher Carlos Frias had a day to forget in Wednesday's loss, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits in two-thirds of an inning in his team's 16-2 defeat against the Rockies.
Frias (0-1) had given up 11 earned runs in 25 1/3 innings over 11 appearances (one start) coming into Wednesday, but the first seven batters of the game recorded hits against the starter, including a three-run home run. He was able to record outs on a caught stealing and a bunt into a fielder's choice, but three more singles got him pulled from the game in the first inning. Frias owns a 6.58 ERA and 18:4 K:BB ratio in 26 innings. He isn't currently scheduled to start again.
