D-Backs' David Peralta looks to make a bigger impact in 2015
|(3/2/15) After a solid rookie year in 2014, Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta is working to make an even bigger impact this season.
When the 2014 season ended, he returned to his home in Venezuela to play more baseball.
He spent his time there trying to improve his hitting against left-handed pitchers. He batted only .197 against lefties as a rookie.
"I know I had a good season, but I need to get better and I wanted to work to get better," Peralta said of his decision to play winter ball, per MLB.com. "I like to get better and learn something every day. So I went there to learn something, to get better and to get more at-bats. This year, my goal is to be an everyday player, and I feel like I'm ready to go now."
Peralta will battle Endier Inciarte for playing time in left field this spring.
"He is a big part of our plans," general manager Dave Stewart said of Peralta. "Those are the kind of guys that you have to like, guys that want to keep getting better. He didn't rest on the fact that he had a good season at the big league level, and says he wants to go back and keep working on his skills and get better."

Diamondbacks pair continues absence from lineup Thursday
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(9/18/14) Two Diamondbacks starters remain sidelined Thursday against Colorado.
The injured pair are outfielder David Peralta and third baseman Jake Lamb. Peralta has been out for two weeks while Lamb has not started since Friday.
|2014 summary: A one-time pitcher in the Cardinals' minor league system, David Peralta completed a long and improbable journey in 2014, reaching the majors as an outfielder with the Diamondbacks. Peralta hit only eight home runs in 329 at-bats, but he helped points league owners with his gap power, which produced 12 doubles and nine triples. Aside from missing two weeks in September with a back injury, Peralta played regularly once he was called up in June. The rookie finished the year with a .286 batting average, 36 RBI, 40 runs and six stolen bases.|
Playing time status: Peralta will split time in left field with Ender Inciarte, but he should get the bulk of the assignments against right-handed pitchers, giving him the larger share of overall playing time.
2015 outlook: Especially since Peralta isn't likely to play often against lefties, he won't get enough plate appearances to help owners in standard mixed leagues. He is worth drafting in deeper mixed points leagues, not only for the doubles and triples power, but also for a potentially low strikeout rate. However, Rotisserie owners don't need to pursue Peralta outside of NL-only formats and very deep mixed leagues.
