Fantasy Analysis
Betemit could get a large share of the Orioles' designated hitter at-bats, though he could see time at third base as well. The move to Oriole Park at Camden Yards should suit him well, and owners can look to Betemit as an option in AL-only leagues. (Updated 01/24/2012).
11/01/2011 16:35 Tigers GM: Ordonez, Guillen not likely to return
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says it is highly unlikely free agents Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen will be back next season.
Coming off an impressive 2010 season in which he produced a career-best .889 OPS, Betemit spent the entire 2011 season getting displaced -- first by big-name prospect Mike Moustakas in Kansas City and then by defensive whiz Brandon Inge in Detroit. Even with the sporadic playing time, he managed to compile a .285 batting average, showing he's still an adequate offensive contributor. Then again, he didn't exactly seize his opportunity as an everyday player. Now with the Orioles, he'll have a chance for semi-regular playing time at DH and also spell Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis at the corner infield spots occasionally, but full-time at-bats are probably beyond his reach. Betemit is strictly an AL -only option on Draft Day. (Updated 1/25/12)
