| Wilson Betemit jogging in pool |

| Wilson Betemit won't be ready for late May activation |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Orioles infielder Wilson Betemit (knee) will not be ready to come off the 60-day disabled list when he's eligible May 30. As of Sunday, he is still only doing some workouts in the pool.
|
| Wilson Betemit has made a career of patching up lineups with obvious holes in them, ably manning both corner infield spots and hitting enough homers to keep from getting replaced. That's basically the role he had for the Orioles last year, and it amounted to 341 at-bats, the second-most of his career. Of course, when he went down with a sore wrist in mid-August, the Orioles didn't have too much trouble replacing him, calling up top prospect Manny Machado to man third base, but they have a brand new hole for Betemit to fill now that Mark Reynolds is in Cleveland. Because Nolan Reimold is also part of that discussion, you again shouldn't count on Betemit for more than 300 at-bats or so. But 300 at-bats he'll give you, most likely with double-digit homers, making him worth a late-round pick in AL-only leagues. (Updated 1/9/13) |
