Blake retires from baseball: The Des Moines Register reports Tuesday that free agent infielder Casey Blake has decided to retire from baseball. Blake was released by Colorado at the end of spring training. "My career has to end at some point," the 38-year-old said. "If I was going to play, it would probably only be one more year anyway. I just decided to shut it down. And Im OK with the decision." (Updated 05/08/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Blake amassed 1,186 hits over the course of his 13-year major league career. That came with 167 home runs. He's had a nice run, but Blake has called it a career and no longer carries any Fantasy value. (Updated 05/08/2012).
03/23/2012 12:16 Rockies camp report: Likes, dislikes
There's a lot to like about the 1-2 punch of Tulo and CarGo in Colorado's lineup, but Jon Heyman says leadoff man Dexter Fowler has to hit more than he has. A young rotation is a concern, as well as a lack of closing experience.
03/23/2012 12:03 Rockies camp report: Lineup is solid, but young staff must grow up fast
The Tulo and CarGo Show will benefit from veteran additions like Michael Cuddyer and Marco Scutaro, but Jon Heyman says the Rockies' playoff hopes rest on how a talented, young pitching staff fares in Coors Field.
03/23/2012 00:34 Spring primer: Colorado Rockies
Few teams were as disappointing in 2011 as the Rockies, as Ubaldo Jimenez struggled and then found himself out of town. Jimenez's trade was the first of many moves the Rockies made in reaction to the 73-89 season, with the biggest offseason acquisition being the signing of Michael Cuddyer, who should find Coors Field to his liking.
03/19/2012 12:56 2012 Draft Prep: Tiers for fears over uncertainty
The inherent stress of drafting can become overwhelming. How do you make the most of what's left once those middle and late rounds arrive. Al Melchior has some thoughts in his hitting tiers, using some less conventional methods.
A pinched nerve in Casey Blake's neck sapped him of his usual power and, ultimately, playing time in 2011, but he has a chance for a comeback in 2012. Blake entered spring training as the frontrunner to be Colorado's starting third baseman, as the Rockies signed him to a one-year, incentive-laden contract back in December. Things didn't work out, though, as continued problems with his neck kept limited him to 20 at-bats in Cactus League play, and the Rockies cut him loose. Still, Blake is just two years removed from a 17-homer campaign in which he started 134 games, so he could hold value for owners in league-specific formats if he can catch on with another team.
