| Nelson Figueroa stuns Team USA |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (3/16/13) Diamondbacks pitcher Nelson Figueroa came through big for Puerto Rico in Friday's elimination game against Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Figueroa, who has not pitched since 2011, held Team USA in check as he tossed six shutout innings and allowed just two hits in a 4-3 victory.
The 38-year-old veteran also struck out two and issued just one walk as he improved his ERA to 1.80 in the tournament.
"We were supreme underdogs against that lineup," Figueroa said. "It was motivation to show them what kind of pitcher I was."
Figueroa is not expected to pitch for the Diamondbacks this year in the majors.
