Preseason Outlook

Guzman finally began to live up to his potential in Washington after years of futility in Minnesota, batting a combined .319 in 2007 and 2008. He couldn't quite maintain that pace last year, though, slumping to .256 in the second half before a sore shoulder limited him to pinch-hitting duties at the end of the year. A player who walks as infrequently as he does pretty much has to hit over .300 to matter in Fantasy, so Guzman at anything less than his best won't give you the numbers you need. Plus, he now has to contend with prospect Ian Desmond for at-bats, which can only lower his contributions across the board. The Nationals did consider moving Guzman to second base, preserving his chances of a rebound, but since even a complete resurgence would make him no more than a low-end performer, he should go undrafted in mixed leagues.
