Knight earns first MLB win
(9/17/08) Brandon Knight (1-0), a 32-year-old journeyman back from the Olympics, earned his first major league victory with five solid innings during a 9-7 win Wednesday against the Nationals. Knight, who pitched for the Yankees in 2001 and 2002 and was on the U.S. baseball team at the Beijing Olympics, was making his second career start in the majors. He gave up Kory Casto's RBI double and Emilio Bonifacio's RBI single. But Knight avoided further problems in the fourth when he got Ryan Langerhans to ground out with the bases loaded. Knight yielded six hits and four walks while striking out five.
Mets go with Knight over Figueroa
(9/15/08) According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Brandon Knight, an Olympic bronze medalist, is expected to make a spot start Wednesday against the Nationals. Knight's services are required because a rainout Friday knocked LHP Johan Santana off turn. Knight allowed four runs in five innings against St. Louis on July 26 in his lone start for the Mets before joining Team USA. Nelson Figueroa was also in the mix. The next start for rookie LHP Jonathon Niese probably will be Sept. 22 against the Chicago Cubs, Manuel said. Niese pitched eight shutout innings Saturday night to beat Atlanta for a doubleheader split.

Week 26 Pitching Planner
Our final Pitching Planner of the year is notoriously the most tenuous as team's reconfigure their rotations for the postseason and/or slot their aces for added starts in the final week. Our Eric Mack does his best to measure the possibilities and potential two-start pitchers.

Carlos Beltran homered from both sides of the plate, Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado also went deep, and the New York Mets built a big lead then barely held on to beat the Washington Nationals 9-7 Wednesday night.

Week 25 Pitching Planner
A series of rainouts and doubleheaders -- and just typical September baseball -- makes a mess of rotations. Our Eric Mack tries to sort out the mess and predict who will start and who will be two-start pitchers in the weekly Pitching Planner.
