Lilly beat up by D-Backs for first L: Dodgers pitcher Ted Lilly endured his worst outing of the season on Wednesday night against the Diamondbacks. He allowed eight runs on nine hits with five walks over 3 1/3 innings in the 11-4 loss. The left-hander surrendered a solo homer to the second batter he faced during a two-run first. He would give up three runs over the next two frames. Then in the fourth, he was tagged for three more runs before being pulled for Jamey Wright. Lilly, who threw 79 pitches, also struck out three while taking his first loss of the season. (Updated 05/24/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Lilly saw his ERA rise from 1.79 to 3.14 on Wednesday as he allowed as many runs as he had in his previous five starts combined. Owners knew that he was going to have a rough outing sooner or later so hopefully he will be able to bounce back his next time out. The 36-year-old has posted double-digit wins each of the last nine seasons as is already halfway there thus far so keep Lilly active in deeper mixed leagues. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Brewers, setting him up for two starts during Week 9 (May 28-June 3). Lilly will also face off against the Rockies during the upcoming scoring period. (Updated 05/24/2012).

05/19/2012 01:37 Bases-load walk gives Dodgers win
A.J. Ellis drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night in the opener of a series between the NL West and Central Division leaders.
With a 12-14 record and a 3.97 ERA, Ted Lilly had a typical season for him in 2011, but it took a furious late-season rally to get his stat line into its normal condition. By the end of July, the lefty had a 5.02 ERA and a very un-Lilly-like 1.29 WHIP. He had been doing his usual stellar job of throwing strikes, but Lilly was giving up more base hits on balls in play than usual. From August 3 on, Lilly made up for his apparent bad luck with a vengeance, holding batters to a .208 batting average on balls in play. In the end, Lilly was who he always has been: an extreme flyball pitcher with great control. Owners who don’t remember his late-season correction will likely pass on Lilly, making him a bargain for owners who recognize that he has been remarkably consistent over the last five years. He is worth taking with a late-round pick in standard mixed leagues, or at the very least, with an early season waiver claim. (Updated 1/4/12)
