| John McDonald dealing with elbow issue |

(5/18/13) Pirates infielder John McDonald, on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain, is also experiencing elbow discomfort, manager Clint Hurdle told MLB.com Saturday.
McDonald is expected to go on a rehab assignment before he would be activated. He has been sidelined since May 14 and was hitless in his last six games before landing on the DL.

(5/15/13) The Pirates placed infielder John McDonald on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a lower back strain. McDonald, who is hitless in six May games (0 for 12), is batting .065 through 16 games.

(5/15/13) Pirates infielder John McDonald left Tuesday's game against the Brewers in the 12th inning due to lower back pain, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. He went 0 for 1 before the early exit.
McDonald is batting .065 on the year.

(8/23/12) Diamondbacks infielder John McDonald was back on the field for Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Marlins, starting the second game at shortstop. He went 0 for 2 with a walk in a 3-0 win. McDonald had been out of the starting lineup for more than a week with an elbow injury.

| Utility infielder John McDonald wrapped up his fifth straight season with 230 or fewer at-bats in 2012, hitting .249 with six home runs (tying a career-high) and nine doubles. McDonald will enter 2013 with shortstop eligibility, which gives him a little bit of value as a desperation play mid-season when injuries strike your deep NL-only team, but he should be left undrafted in most formats.
