Torrealba booted from winter league: According to the Venezuelan newspaper Meridiano, Rangers C Yorvit Torrealba has been suspended from the Venezuelan Winter League for the remainder of the season. Torrealba received a 66-game suspension, which covers the length of the entire winter league season, for shoving the home plate umpire in the face after an at-bat in a game last Friday. As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas general manager Jon Daniels is looking into the possibility of Torrealba facing disciplinary action from the Rangers as well. (Updated 12/26/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
Torrealba was probably looking at a reduction in playing time next season, due to the emergence of Mike Napoli as the Rangers' first-string catcher, but this incident won't do anything to boost his value. Regardless of what occurs going forward, Torrealba will merely be an option for owners in deeper AL-only leagues. (Updated 12/26/2011).
Yorvit Torrealba certainly had an offseason to forget this past winter. Torrealba finished the 2011 campaign -- his first with the Texas Rangers -- with seven homers and a career-high 27 doubles while boasting a .273 batting average. He averaged nearly a hit per game as he collected 108 hits in 113 outings as the Rangers secured a berth in the World Series. However, he was plagued by turmoil during the offseason as he was suspended for 66 games in the Venezuelan League for striking an umpire during a game in December. The suspension does not carry over to Major League Baseball, but the Rangers have discussed possible disciplinary actions for the 33-year-old. This comes at a tough time for Torrealba as he was already expected to lose playing time following the emergence of Texas C Mike Napoli in last year’s postseason. Torrealba obviously benefits from competing in hitter-friendly ballparks, but without sufficient playing time, he should only be considered a worthwhile Fantasy option in deeper AL-only formats for the 2012 campaign.
