(5/17/13) The Marlins have designated pitcher Jon Rauch for assignment following Friday's game against Arizona.
Rauch allowed two runs and four hits in one inning of work against the Diamondbacks. His ERA rose from 6.89 to 7.56. He allowed 14 runs over 16 2/3 innings of work in the majors.

(2/17/13) Marlins manager Mike Redmond told reporters Sunday free-agent acquisition Jon Rauch is expected to work in a setup role. "We signed Rauch to be that setup guy, that veteran guy, who's been around," Redmond said, per The Miami Herald. "He's closed games. He's been a setup guy. He's obviously going to take some of the pressure off some of those young guys, behind that he's been in that role and done that."

(2/5/13) The Marlins signed reliever Jon Rauch to a one-year deal Tuesday and designated outfielder Bryan Petersen for assignment to clear a roster spot.

| After averaging 13 saves over the previous four seasons, Jon Rauch was not nearly as productive in his first year with the Mets but had a bounce-back campaign of sorts. He made 73 appearances, his most since 2009, and posted a 3.59 ERA while converting 4 of 8 save chances. The right-hander also recorded a 0.98 WHIP while walking just 12 in 57 2/3 innings pitched. Rauch should be able to land a job pitching in the late innings somewhere this offseason but securing a closer's role does not seem likely. That being the case, plan on leaving the 34-year-old for the deepest of single-league formats on Draft Day. (Updated 1/10/13) |
