Fantasy Analysis
Torres was one of the biggest Fantasy disappointments in 2011. After a breakout 2010 season, Torres was marred by injury in 2011. It also didn't help that the Giants had a crowded outfield situation, which is part of the reason San Francisco traded him to New York this offseason. Torres is now the Mets' starting center fielder and potential leadoff hitter. He has a chance for a bounce-back season in 2012, but you can't invest more than a late-round Fantasy flier on Torres. 01/17/2012 04:51 2012 Fantasy outlooks: New York Mets
The Mets face a lot of question marks (Johan Santana and Jason Bay, to name a pair), but Fantasy owners can also look forward to up-and-coming talent taking big steps forward in 2012.
After an injury-riddled 2011 season, Andres Torres is hoping a change of scenery will help kick-start his offensive production. Torres managed just 112 games for San Francisco last year before being shipped to the Mets during the offseason as part of a package in exchange for outfielder Angel Pagan. A career minor leaguer, Torres enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2010 before finishing with a lowly .221 batting average with four home runs and 19 RBI last season as he was slowed by a troublesome Achilles injury. Despite the struggles at the plate, Torres still showed some life in his legs and nabbed 19 stolen bases on 25 chances. With New York, he will start in center field and assume the leadoff spot as the Mets look to fill the void atop the batting order left by Jose Reyes. Torres is unlikely to produce a high batting average this season, but he could have value as an inexpensive source of runs and stolen bases -- if he stays healthy. Fantasy owners should target him late in NL-only Fantasy drafts and hope he rebounds in 2012. (Updated 2/6/12)
