|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|

Dustin McGowan hopes bullpen helps keep him healthy
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(5/15/14) Blue Jays pitcher Dustin McGowan has struggled to recover after each of his starts this season, and was finally moved to the bullpen Thursday. He told MLB.com he hopes the move can help prolong his career.
"By that fourth day I felt like I could throw again and by game day I'm fine," he said, after noting he was usually fighting through pain in his off-days. "At that slow pace, if I keep going at that rate, I might not be ready to go on that fifth day. It took a lot out of me. Now I have to save some to keep going and prolong my career."
McGowan pitched out of the bullpen in 2013 while recovering from shoulder surgery, posting a 2.45 ERA in 25 2/3 innings of work. He had a 5.08 ERA in 39 innings over eight starts this season.
