McGowan starts playing catch: Toronto injured starter Dustin McGowan (foot, shoulder) began playing light catch on Monday, reports Sportsnet.ca. McGowan got an early jump on this as it was earlier than originally planned for him to begin playing catch. McGowan had been rehabbing a foot injury when he developed shoulder pain in late April and was shut down. (Updated 05/14/2012)
Injury Report
Foot, shoulder - 15-day DL. Out until at least late May (Updated - 5/14/12)
Fantasy Analysis
McGowan might be a little ahead of schedule, but he still has a ways to go to return to a mound for the Blue Jays. McGowan has a history of shoulder and knee injuries and spent most of the previous three seasons on the disabled list. He opened this season on the 15-day disabled list after being diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and now the shoulder issue might be the worse offender. McGowan is 20-24 with 4.80 ERA in 80 games (60 starts) over parts of five seasons. Fantasy owners should keep him reserved only in deeper AL-only formats. (Updated 05/14/2012).
