Red Sox ink Silva to deal: The Red Sox signed SP Carlos Silva to a minor league deal with a spring training invite on Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe. Silva spent the 2011 season in the Yankees' organization, but he never reached the majors and had his season derailed by shoulder issues. He last pitched in the majors in 2010 with the Cubs, when he went 10-6 with a 4.22 ERA. (Updated 01/03/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
The Red Sox's rotation is far from settled, so Silva has an outside shot at winning a spot. He was fairly effective in his last tour of the majors, back in 2010, so he could be worth consideration in AL-only leagues, but only if it appears that he can make the big league squad out of camp.
