| Travis Hafner back in the cage |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) Yankees DH Travis Hafner, who is dealing with shoulder soreness, took part in batting practice for the first time since receiving a cortisone shot Tuesday.
Hafner, who was sidelined with the injury for four games with the injury, could be ready to return during the weekend. He has a .260/.383/.510 line through 96 at-bats.
"It's tough to tell until you hit,” Hafner said. "But it feels good. [Wednesday] it was just sore from the shot. Now it feels pretty good. So we’ll see".

| Free agent designated hitter Travis Hafner started 2012 strong, with a .295 average, two home runs and 17 walks through April for Cleveland. And then the familiar refrain of injury struck, limiting Hafner to just 66 total games. His average dipped to .228 after positing a promising .277 over the previous three years. But you aren't rostering Hafner for his batting average. He hasn't played in 150 games since 2007, and that doesn't figure to change with the Yankees, who will need to make the DH spot available from time to time to rest all their aging infielders. Without games, Hafner isn't getting Fantasy owners home runs. He's gone from a 40-home run threat to a 40-games played threat, and until he can shake that tendency, he isn't worth much at a position that offers no flexibility. He makes for a risky late-round power source in AL-only leagues. (Updated 2/3/13) |
