| Brian Roberts moved to 60-day DL |

(1:09 pm ET) The Orioles pushed second baseman Brian Roberts (hamstring) to the 60-day disabled list, MLB.com reports Saturday.
Roberts' move creates roster space for Jair Jurrjens to be added to the 40-man roster. Jurrjens is starting Saturday against Tampa Bay.

(5/14/13) Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, fresh off surgery last Thursday to repair a ruptured tendon in the back of his right knee, has begun riding the stationary bike down at Baltimore's spring training complex, the Baltimore Sun reports Tuesday.
Roberts is expected to be on the shelf for at least the next six weeks rehabbing his injury.

(5/9/13) Orioles manager Buck Showalter said second baseman Brian Roberts had successful surgery on his hamstring Thursday. He will fly to Sarasota, Fla., Friday.
Roberts is expected to miss six weeks while recovering from surgery.

(5/9/13) Although veteran second baseman Brian Roberts will miss six more weeks as he opts for surgery on his right hamstring, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday he's optimistic Roberts will be able to contribute this season.
"Hopefully he'll make the time period and be able to pick up where he left off and not have that in the back of his mind," Showalter said, per The Baltimore Sun. "I know what his goals are. He's very frustrated by it, as we are, but Brian Roberts is going to come back and make a contribution to this club this year. I've got a good feeling about that."

(5/8/13) Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is years removed from actually helping Fantasy owners, but the injury-plagued 35-year-old was an intriguing stash option until Wednesday.
After news that Roberts will miss at least six more weeks due to hamstring surgery, I would say it is time to drop him.
Two of our three experts still have Roberts ranked in the top-25 for second basemen, but I would imagine that is going to change pretty quickly based on this news. Roberts is owned in 21 percent of CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues, but at this point I don't see much point in stashing him. There are better options worth scooping up, even ones on the disabled list.

| Just when it looked like Brian Roberts' stroke of bad luck was over, that the nightmare of his 20-month rehabilitation from a self-inflected concussion late in 2010 had reached its end, he found a way back to the DL last year, tearing the labrum in his hip less than a month back on the job. Though he attempted to rehabilitate the injury, he eventually gave in to surgery in early August. He should be healthy in time for spring training, but given his recent history and 35 years of age, you have to wonder how long he'll stay that way ... or if he'll even be effective anymore. In his prime, Roberts was an on-base machine who contributed an elite number of doubles and steals, but with a .244 batting average and .648 OPS in the three years since all this trouble began, we haven't seen that version of him since 2009. The number of competent second basemen in AL-only leagues is limited enough that Roberts is worth a flier in those formats, but mixed-league owners shouldn't bother with him. (Updated 1/9/13) |
