| 'So far, so good' for Carlos Zambrano |

(3:44 pm ET) Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. talked Tuesday about his plans for Carlos Zambrano, who signed a minor-league contract last week.
"He pitches again (Tuesday in extended spring) and we’ll try to get him stretched out before we get him into a game in the lower minors. Maybe in Clearwater first," Amaro told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "We’ll see if he’s a viable option for us. At some point he’ll go to the upper levels once he gets stretched out. So far, so good with him."

| Carlos Zambrano makes extended spring debut |

(5/18/13) Phillies pitcher Carlos Zambrano made his debut at extended spring training Saturday, throwing two scoreless innings on 44 pitches. Zambrano struck out five batters and allowed one hit.
Zambrano is on a minor-league contract and has no promise from the team about earning a promotion, but he does have a July 1 opt-out on his contract.

(5/15/13) Carlos Zambrano, who signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies Wednesday, will report to extended spring training and the team has made no promises about him being called up to the majors, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Danny Knobler. Zambrano, however, does have a July 1 opt-out on his contract.
The Phillies were one of a few teams that scouted Zambrano in Miami Monday.
"We're just looking to add some starting pitching depth to the organization. We're taking a chance. It's low-risk, hopefully high-reward," assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said.

(5/15/13) Free-agent pitcher Carlos Zambrano has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Phillies, the team announced Wednesday. Zambrano last pitched in the majors in 2012, going 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA in 35 appearances (20 starts) for Miami.

(5/11/13) Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. shot down a Venezuelan media report that claimed the Phillies had signed veteran pitcher Carlos Zambrano, calling it "ridiculously premature," according to Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia on Saturday.
However, Amaro did reveal that the team will take a look at Zambrano, who recently signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
