Zambrano to Marlins a done deal: SP Carlos Zambrano agreed to waive his no-trade clause on Thursday, making his move to the Marlins official. The Marlins sent SP Chris Volstad to the Cubs in the deal. The Cubs will pay $15.5 million of the $18 million owed to Zambrano in 2012. (Updated 01/05/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Zambrano fell out of favor with the Cubs with his latest meltdown on Aug. 12 at Atlanta. After the game, he cleaned out his locker and claimed he was retiring -- a move that landed him on the restricted list. Now, he gets a fresh start in Miami for a manager in Ozzie Guillen who reportedly had a hand in this move. Of course, Zambrano doesn't have the stuff he once did, going 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA and 1.44 WHIP last year. He still has the potential to contribute in mixed leagues at age 30, but he's no certainty to get drafted in mixed leagues. (Updated 01/05/2012).

The Miami Marlins have their share of new faces on the field heading into the 2012 season -- and their share of potential PR nightmares. Al Melchior breaks down the Marlins for Fantasy owners in his team outlook.
Carlos Zambrano has always had a colorful personality, but when he was pitching well, the Cubs were willing to overlook his antics. Unfortunately, he doesn't pitch so well anymore. The heavy workloads early in his career have taken a toll on his arm, making him more hittable than his walk rate can survive. So when an ejection in Atlanta last August led to him cleaning out his locker and half-heartedly declaring his retirement, the Cubs weren't amused. They put him on the restricted list and basically said he wouldn't pitch in a Cubs uniform again. Fortunately, Zambrano still had a fan in new Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen, who convinced the Miami front office to bring in Zambrano at a bargain basement price. Now, pitching for a manager as prone to meltdowns as he is, Zambrano might strangely be in his comfort zone. He's not necessarily a lost cause in Fantasy, having gone 8-0 with a 1.41 ERA over his final 11 starts in 2010. Still, given his escalating WHIP over the last few years, you can't expect him to procure an ERA below 4.00. Zambrano is at best a late-rounder in mixed leagues. (Updated 2/9/12)
