| Giants activate Jeremy Affeldt |

(5/3/13) The Giants have officially reinstated reliever Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Affeldt walked five and struck out three while allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings of work before landing on the DL.

(5/1/13) Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt threw 25 pitches during an appearance at extended spring training Wednesday, MLB.com reports. As along as the he does not feel any discomfort in his strained right oblique, the left-hander is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
"Overall, it was good," Affeldt said. "I could have been a little more aggressive. But sometimes in those situations it's tough to feel the same aggression that you do [in a game]."

(4/30/13) Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) has one hurdle left before coming off the disabled list -- throw to live hitters. Affeldt is expected to undertake that challenge Wednesday, per MLB.com.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Monday Affeldt will either throw a simulated game against Giants teammates, pitch in an extended spring game or make a rehab appearance for Class A San Jose.
Affeldt was happy with his bullpen session Monday, showing improved command as he used all of his pitches.
"We've been pretty aggressive with it," Affeldt said. "I've been in the training room forever every day."

(4/27/13) Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt completed a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday without any setbacks. It was his first session since landing on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
Affeldt remains on track to return at some point next week for the Giants. He is hoping to be activated by April 30.

(4/26/13) Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt, on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, according to the San Jose Mercury News. It will be his first bullpen session since landing on the DL.
Affeldt is hoping to be activated by April 30. He had a 5.79 ERA in six appearances.

| In 2012, Jeremy Affeldt turned in yet another solid campaign out of the Giants' bullpen, and the team rewarded him with a three-year, $18 million deal. Affeldt is valuable to the Giants, as he can fill several roles, pitching in middle relief, in a setup role, facing a tough lefty or two, or even closing in a pinch. Unfortunately, that versatility doesn't necessarily translate into Fantasy value. Affeldt is just good enough at getting strikeouts, avoiding homers and picking up holds that he is relevant in leagues that use middle relievers and setup men. However, he is not quite good enough to be considered a top target in those formats. (Updated 1/8/13) |
