| Ryan Doumit absent from Twins' lineup Tuesday |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Twins catcher/designated hitter Ryan Doumit is not in the club's starting lineup Tuesday, according to MLB.com.
Doumit will be replaced by Oswaldo Arcia, who will bat seventh. Doumit has struggled to begin the season, hitting just .214/.281/.374 in 107 at-bats. He could return to the lineup Wednesday to face Dylan Axelrod.

| Ryan Doumit beginning to rack up RBI |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/13/13) Twins catcher Ryan Doumit heads into Monday's game against the White Sox with at least one RBI in seven of his last nine games. He's totaled nine in that span after managing just six RBI in his first 21 games.
Doumit is batting .242 (8 for 33) in his last nine games, but he's slugging .545 with an .835 OPS in that stretch. He also has one double, three homers, three walks and eight runs.

| Ryan Doumit catching our attention |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Twins designated hitter Ryan Doumit seems to be heating up, vaulting his batting average above the Mendoza line with his last two games. After failing to homer in his first 24 games, he has two over the last two days, a sure sign that the veteran is finding his stroke.
Given that he is owned in just 42 percent of CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues, this might be the time to go grab him off waivers.
Remember, Doumit hit 18 home runs with an entirely respectable .275 batting average a year ago for the Twins. It also took him a while to heat up in 2012, as he had just one home run and a .250 batting average in April. If his season takes a similar path this time around, you're going to get a solid catcher-eligible player who hit better than .280 in three of the final five months of the season.
Doumit splits his time pretty evenly between designated hitter and catcher, which is enough to keep him fresh. In two-catcher Fantasy leagues, I see little reason not to own him now that he is shaking off the rust.

| Ryan Doumit homers among four hits |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Minnesota designated hitter Ryan Doumit had a huge offensive game Wednesday as the Twins beat the Red Sox in Boston, 15-8.
Doumit recorded four hits in five at-bats and notched his second home run of the season. Doumit took starter Allen Webster deep in the first inning for a two-run blast.
He went 4 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Doumit added a walk and is batting .244.
He's homered in back-to-back games and is 6 for 9 over that stretch with five runs scored and three RBI.

| Ryan Doumit launches first homer |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) It took him 24 games, but Twins catcher Ryan Doumit unleashed his first home run of the season during Tuesday's contest against the Red Sox.
Doumit took starter Ryan Dempster deep in the seventh inning for a solo home run. He added a double and finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI in a 6-1 victory.
Doumit, who went deep 18 times last season, is hitting .212 with one home run and nine RBI in 85 at-bats.

| During his career in Pittsburgh, Ryan Doumit had stretches where he looked like one of the better offensive catchers in baseball, but every year, some collision or foul tip would force him to miss an extended period of time, making him a non-factor in Fantasy. The move to Minnesota last year promised to keep him on the field by giving him starts at other positions, such as DH and the outfield, and it delivered. His 134 games were a career high. So were his 484 at-bats. As a result, he posted career bests in both home runs (18) and RBI (75), emerging as a top-10 Fantasy catcher. Of course, he won't get drafted as a top-10 catcher in 2013. What he achieved last year was probably the limit of his potential, so Fantasy owners will naturally flock to those with more upside. Plus, Doumit is still an injury risk as he approaches his 32nd birthday. Still, the likelihood of him falling out of the top 15 on Draft Day shows just how deep the position has become. In leagues that use only one catcher slot, he's an ideal player to grab in the last round or two. He's more like a middle-rounder in two-catcher leagues. (Updated 12/6/12) |
