| Reed Johnson only useful vs. LHP |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (4/23/13) The Braves will likely turn to outfielder Reed Johnson against left-handed pitchers with Jason Heyward out, and the 36-year-old showed Tuesday that he can still turn on southpaws with ease. He went 4 for 4 in the game with three doubles to up his batting average to .300.
In his career, Johnson has shown a severe platoon split, batting .310 against lefties and .265 against righties, with a significant increase in overall power production against lefties as well. Unfortunately for prospective Fantasy owners, Johnson's split means he will continue to be the smaller side of the platoon, even if he is a better overall option than Jordan Schafer.
In deeper, daily Fantasy formats, it might be worth juggling the roster to get Johnson active against left-handed pitchers. Other than that, he probably isn't worth your time, with Heyward expected to miss just a couple of weeks.

| Reed Johnson has four-hit game |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (4/23/13) Braves outfielder Reed Johnson had an infield single and three doubles in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies. He finished 4 for 4 in the 4-3 victory. It was his first four-hit game since July 6, 2012.
Johnson has five hits in his last two starts and is hitting .300/.333/.500 in 20 at-bats.

| Reed Johnson to play in Jason Heyward's absence |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/23/13) Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said prior to Tuesday's doubleheader at Colorado he plans to use Jordan Schafer and Reed Johnson in right field while Jason Heyward (appendectomy) is out, which will keep Justin Upton in left field, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Johnson started in right field in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader, which was his third start in right field. Johnson entered play batting .125 (2 for 16) with one double through 12 games.

| Reed Johnson starting Tuesday |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (4/9/13) Braves outfielder Reed Johnson will start in place of Jason Heyward Tuesday.
This is a routine day off for Heyward, so Johnson is not about to stumble into more playing time. He'll bat eighth and play right field Tuesday.

| Johnson has season-high three hits |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (9/3/12) Atlanta outfielder Reed Johnson turned in his most productive performance since being traded to the Braves Sunday against the Phillies. Johnson doubled in a run in the second inning and then singled in two more runs in the sixth as he finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI in a 8-7 victory. He improved his batting average to .307 on the year.

| Reed Johnson destroys left-handed pitchers, having hit .311 with an .828 OPS against them over his 10-year career. Not surprisingly, when the Braves acquired him from the Cubs in the Paul Maholm deal last July, they made every effort to get him in the lineup against left-handed pitchers. Most often, it was in left field, allowing Martin Prado to shift to the infield. As the Braves roster currently stands, the plan for Johnson in 2013 is more or less the same. He'll sit against right-handers, but against left-handers, the left-handed hitting Juan Francisco will sit, allowing Prado to shift to third base and Johnson to start in left field. A last-minute acquisition could always change that alignment, but Johnson's opportunities would only shrink in that case. If you target the 36-year-old for batting average help in an NL-only league, understand that he won't give you more than 250 at-bats or so. (Updated 1/8/13) |
