| McDonald in mix for bench spot |
| (2/26/13) Cubs outfielder Darnell McDonald has gone just 1 for 6 (.167) with a homer and three RBI through three Cactus League games but has caught the eye on manager Dale Sveum thus far in camp. "He's obviously been swinging the bat well," Sveum told MLB.com Tuesday. "He's killed left-handed pitching in his career. He's in the mix for one of those spots [on the bench]. He's the ultimate professional, he really works hard and he's a great guy. We're just glad to have him in camp."

| McDonald agrees with Cubs |

(1/10/13) Darnell McDonald, who hit .205 with two home runs and one steal in 88 at-bats last season (split between the Yankees and Red Sox), agreed to a minor league deal with the Cubs on Thursday. He received an invitation to spring training.
