Nix feeling a little better: Philadelphia outfielder Laynce Nix, on the DL with a strained left calf, is expected to travel with the club on its upcoming road trip, reports MLB.com. That said, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said he's unsure when Nix will be able to return. Amaro did say Nix's soreness and inflammation is starting to die down. (Updated 05/21/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Nix gave the Phillies some versatility as he played both first base and in the outfield. Granted he was a reserve player, but he had value on the team. He was batting .326 in his 14 games before landing on the shelf. This is the same injury that kept Jimmy Rollins out of the lineup for 56 games in 2010. Nix has NL-only Fantasy value, when healthy. 05/04/2012 23:08 Nationals rally to beat Phillies in 11th

05/03/2012 14:40 Phils' Blanton baffles Braves for shutout
Joe Blanton pitched a three-hitter for his first shutout in five years and Shane Victorino hit a two-run homer to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.
Laynce Nix posted a relatively productive -- albeit quiet -- campaign during his only season with the Nationals last year. Nix belted a career-high 16 home runs and drove in 44 runs in 124 games for Washington, which represented career-best numbers. It was just the third time in his eight-year major-league career he has notched double figures in homers. Nix turned the effective showing into a two-year deal with the Phillies in the offseason and is expected to compete for the starting job in left field during spring training. The 31-year-old could serve in a platoon situation with John Mayberry Jr. as he is better against right-handed pitchers and hit .263 against opponents last season. Conversely, he hit just .111 against lefties and did not record a home run. Fantasy owners should not expect a strong batting average from Nix, but he could earn roughly 300 at-bats. Consider him a late-round option in NL-only Fantasy drafts as he is likely to bat in the bottom of the Phillies' lineup -- when he starts. (Updated 2/13/12)
