Diamondbacks pitcher Oliver Perez adjusting delivery
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/25/15) Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is trtying to calm down pitcher Oliver Perez and his delivery motion, according to AZCentral.com.
Perez's delivery tends to vary from pitch to pitch, leading to his inconsistency. Perez is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA in 10 innings of work this season.
"We're trying to calm him down with all the different windups he uses," Hale said. "Once he gets in the game, he speeds up and seems to want to go to the Luis Tiantone and the quick pitch. … It's hard to be consistent with the release point when you're doing all those different things."
Perez also has 13 strikeouts with just four walks on the year.
"I'm looking at everything with my mechanics," Perez said. "We're really looking at video and trying to get a good rhythm in my bullpens. It's one of those times when you have to work."

Diamondbacks' Oliver Perez to see decrease in innings this year
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(4/8/15) Diamondbacks relief pitcher Oliver Perez won't be used as often as he was in 2014, manager Chip Hale said per MLB.com.
Perez threw in a career-high 68 games in 2014 and Hale doesn't want to over-exert his reliever.
"We felt like he threw maybe too much last year and just back him off and just face certain hitters and maybe an inning," Hale said. "That's the max for him."
Perez knows his body and gave it time to rest after the long season in 2014.
"I guess at the end I felt tired, but that's why I took the offseason off," Perez said. "I didn't play winter ball because I'm not 21 anymore, so I have to take care of myself. I rested until December. I feel good right now, and maybe shorter would be better this year. I'll be ready every time like always."
