Diamondbacks' Oliver Perez to see decrease in innings this year
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(4/8/15) Diamondbacks relief pitcher Oliver Perez won't be used as often as he was in 2014, manager Chip Hale said per MLB.com.
Perez threw in a career-high 68 games in 2014 and Hale doesn't want to over-exert his reliever.
"We felt like he threw maybe too much last year and just back him off and just face certain hitters and maybe an inning," Hale said. "That's the max for him."
Perez knows his body and gave it time to rest after the long season in 2014.
"I guess at the end I felt tired, but that's why I took the offseason off," Perez said. "I didn't play winter ball because I'm not 21 anymore, so I have to take care of myself. I rested until December. I feel good right now, and maybe shorter would be better this year. I'll be ready every time like always."

Perez has yielded seven earned runs in his last two innings pitched. If he is done for the season, it will end with a 3-4 record and 2.86 ERA in a career-high 65 outings.

|(9/18/14) The Diamondbacks have shut down pitcher Oliver Perez indefinitely, as he experiences "dead arm," per the Arizona Republic. Perez lasted only one-third of an inning on Sunday, his last appearance. He owns a 2.86 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over 56 2/3 innings of work. It remains to be seen if he'll pitch again this season.|
"I think I could go more but sometimes you have to take care of yourself and have a couple days off because it's a long season," Perez said. "When you're tired, you don't have a lot of power."
