Preseason Outlook

Just three short years ago, Phillips became the second second baseman to join the 30-30 club and offered the best numbers you could hope to find at the position. Now, with the emergence of Ian Kinsler, Aaron Hill, Robinson Cano and Ben Zobrist, he's old news. He didn't do anything wrong, fighting through a fractured wrist last year to finish with his third straight 20-20 season. He just doesn't impress anyone anymore, his 98 RBI quietly ranking second at the position. While it might not show up in his other numbers, he continues to improve his approach at the plate, cutting way back on his strikeouts, and at age 28, he might have other improvements in store. Yes, this year might be the year to target Phillips with so many Fantasy owners distracted by all the fresh meat at the position. His combination of power and speed still translates to serious production in Fantasy. (Updated 12/22/09)
