Rivera diagnosed with ruptured hamstring : According to MLB.com Dodgers outfielder Juan Rivera was diagnosed with a ruptured left hamstring tendon and could be out for two months. Rivera was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday as he's been hobbled by hamstring issues for weeks. Trainer Sue Falsone said this is an unusual injury and that there is a medical debate on whether surgery is needed. "People function without the tendon," Falsone said. "We will re-evaluate after two weeks and see where we're at. [Rivera] did some exercises today and was pain-free. The best case is that he's ready to return in 15 days, but I don't think that's what we're looking at. The worst case is six to eight weeks. He will play this season, for sure." (Updated 05/11/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Rivera missed time last month due to a hamstring injury and is batting just .247 in 25 games this season. The fact he may be out two months is definitely not good news. Rivera has some decent pop and can be utilized in larger Fantasy leagues. Owners in deeper formats should continue to stash him if room allows it. (Updated 05/11/2012).

Despite lacking an everyday role for each of the last two seasons, Juan Rivera managed to accumulate more than 450 plate appearances in each of those years, and it could be more of the same in 2012. Rivera will begin the season as the Dodgers' opening day left fielder, but that doesn't mean that his job will be secure all season long. Outfield prospect Jerry Sands is just a phone call away, and that could leave Rivera to cobble together at-bats through sporadic starts in the outfield and at first base. Even with a steady stream of starts in left field, Rivera's power is mediocre for a corner outfielder. As a result, only owners in NL-only leagues should plan on drafting him. (Updated 3/27/12)
