Blum has huge afternoon: Arizona INF Geoff Blum is going to get plenty of playing time down the stretch, according to manager Kirk Gibson. Blum started at third base on Monday in Colorado and certainly gave the skipper what he asked for. Blum went 3 for 5 in the game and bashed a long solo homer to right field in the top of the sixth inning against Esmil Rogers. The homer was his second of the year. "He's gotta play," Gibson said to MLB.com. "I see him having a huge role in where we go. He's a good player, and he's got a lot of experience." Blum drove in three runs in total on Monday and scored twice. He is batting .286 on the year. (Updated 09/05/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
The 38-year-old Blum has impressed Gibson, but Fantasy owners shouldn't expect many more games like Monday's. Blum is going to help out where needed, but shouldn't be considered much more than an NL-only Fantasy option down the stretch. (Updated 09/05/2011).
