Preseason Outlook

After spending another year in and out of the lineup with continued soreness, Crede elected to have a third surgery on his back this offseason, which begs the question: If the first two didn't work, why should the third? It's a shame, really, because the last time we saw a healthy Crede, he did his most damage, hitting .283 with 30 home runs and 94 RBI in 2006. Now almost 32 and with a chronic back condition, he's a long shot to get regular at-bats in 2010, and he'll probably produce a low batting average with the ones he gets. He can still offer decent power numbers when healthy, but with his mountain of concerns, he's clearly not an option for mixed leagues. (Updated 12/18/09)
