Detwiler among Nats cuts Wednesday
(3/5/08) First-round draft pick Ross Detwiler and Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th homer, were among 16 players the Nationals reassigned to minor league camp at spring training Wednesday. Left-handers Detwiler, the No. 6 overall pick in June's amateur draft, Bacsik, Josh Smoker, Mike Hinckley and Charlie Manning, and right-handers Tristan Crawford, Ismael Ramirez and Jim Ed Warden were the pitchers sent to minor league camp. Also reassigned: catcher Devin Ivany; infielders William Bergolla, Yurendell De Caster and Antonio Perez; and outfielders Roger Bernadina, Frank Diaz, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla. The Nationals also assigned two players to big league camp: right-hander Adam Carr and shortstop Ian Desmond. The moves trim Washington's spring roster from 76 to 62 players.
Bacsik has rough spring outing
(2/29/08) Mike Bacsik, who was 5-8 with a 5.11 ERA in 29 appearances last season, gave up two runs on three hits in one inning against the Marlins Friday. "I threw four pitches and three guys were on," Bacsik said. "They weren't waiting to see what I had today ... It was one of those games."
Bacsik among Nats spring invitees
(11/27/07) Left-hander Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th homer, agreed to terms on a minor league deal with the Nationals. Bacsik was among 19 minor league free agents the Nationals announced Tuesday agreed to contracts and were invited to spring training. The other minor league free agents, several of whom have major league experience, are right-handers Steven Shell, Dennis Tankersley, Bobby Brownlie, Tristan Crawford and Jim Ed Warden; left-handers Mike Hinckley, Arnie Munoz and Jason Stanford; catchers Humberto Cota and Chad Moeller; infielders William Bergolla, Yurendell de Caster, Antonio Perez, Luis Jimenez and Ed Rogers; and outfielders Jason Dubois, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla.
Bacsik taken off 40-man roster
(10/11/07) The Nationals outrighted pitchers Mike Bacsik, Chris Booker, Winston Abreu, Arnie Munoz and Jason Simontacchi to the minor leagues, removing them from the 40-man roster. Outfielder Brandon Watson was also outrighted to the minor leagues Wednesday.
Bacsik gets quick hook Wednesday
(9/27/07) Starting in place of injured RHP Shawn Hill on Wednesday, ex-Met Mike Bacsik lasted only 2 1/3 innings -- the shortest of his 35 major league starts. He was tagged for five runs and seven hits, including three homers.
