Hudson and Bartlett staying together: MLB.com reported on Sunday that the Padres are highly likely to at least begin the start of the 2012 season with both Jason Bartlett and Orlando Hudson in the infield. The duo will make up the middle of the infield for the Padres as neither player has been moved to this point. The report said the team is unlikely to make a move before the season begins. Fantasy Analysis
San Diego is highly open to trading either Bartlett or Hudson, but the players aren't very attractive to other teams given their current contracts. Hudson hit a career-low .246 in 2011, his first year with the Padres, but he was bothered by a groin injury most of the season. He has shown significant signs of decline over the last couple years and might have to settle for a part-time role in 2012. He should go undrafted in mixed leagues. (Updated 01/02/2012).
12/16/2011 17:21 If nothing else, Cuddyer signing an upgrade to 2011 Rockies
So Michael Cuddyer is headed for the Rocky Mountains. Will the clubhouse leader put the Rockies over the top? No, not until they add pitching, Scott Miller says, but they are on the move.
12/13/2011 01:04 Denorfia gets one-year, $1.17M deal from Padres
The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Chris Denorfia worth $1,165,000, and also tendered contracts to 35 other players.
In his prime, Orlando Hudson was never an elite option, but he was always a consistent producer. Now in his mid-30s, Hudson's contact skills have been undergoing a slow erosion and last season he produced his first sub-.250 batting average. The O-Dog also continued to be dogged by injuries, as he missed 43 games with a variety of maladies. He will enter the 2012 season once again as the Padres' starting second baseman, and with no major high-level prospects at the position to push him, Hudson ought to amass plenty of at-bats as long as he can stay healthy. Playing time alone makes him worth rostering in NL-only leagues, but even in many deeper mixed leagues, owners can probably find more promising options. (Updated 2/9/12)
