Preseason Outlook

Rodney has a power arm that makes him a candidate to close with the Angels, but his career 4.28 ERA and 1.42 WHIP make him merely a so-so reliever in Fantasy circles. And those career numbers are lower than what he has posted in recent years. He did save 37 games for the contending Tigers in 2009, but he enters spring training as a setup man behind lefty Brian Fuentes for the Angels. He is more of a sleeper for AL-only leagues on Draft Day. With Fuentes' inconsistent history, there is at least a chance Rodney winds up being a strong source for saves, though. The Angels typically generate a lot of save chances to go around, if manager Mike Scioscia decides to go with a bullpen committee. (Updated 1/13/10)
