Preseason Outlook

Thames again showed he had power, hitting 13 homers in 258 at-bats. Unfortunately, he didn't terrorize left-handed pitchers the same way he did one year earlier, which was enough to convince the Tigers they didn't need him anymore. The Yankees thought enough of him to give him a minor-league deal, though, hoping he might help defray the loss of Johnny Damon. Thames still has the ability to cram a large number of homers into a small number of at-bats, but at age 33, he's unlikely to beat out Brett Gardner and Randy Winn for full-time at-bats. He still has his uses in Fantasy, but you can ignore him in mixed leagues. (Updated 2/9/10)
