Preseason Outlook

You couldn't really call Cabrera's first season in Detroit back in 2008 a disappointment, not when he led the league in homers and finished with a career-high 127 RBI. But everything that went wrong for him then (hitting under .300 with an OPS under .900 for the first time since his first full season in 2004), he corrected in 2009. If not for a domestic dispute that left him with a mysterious bruise on his face in early October, he would have had the perfect season, hitting over .300 every month but one. For as much attention as he gets as a power hitter, he's also one of the safer bets for batting average in all of Fantasy, hitting not just over .300, but over .320 in four of the last five seasons. He's a legitimate contender for the Triple Crown every year, and he can only get better as he approaches his 27th birthday. Clearly, he's a Fantasy stud. If he actually walked like a player of his elite status should, he'd rate as an early first-rounder instead of a late first-rounder. (Updated 12/9/09)
