Preseason Outlook

When the Royals acquired Jacobs from the Marlins last offseason, they thought they had come away with a centerpiece in their lineup. He had just put together his first 30-homer, 90-RBI season and looked like a legitimate middle-of-the-order hitter. But after a so-so start with nine home runs over the first two months, he fell apart, hitting just .217 the rest of the way. Now, he has an uphill battle to his next 30-homer season because he'll surely have to begin this season as a reserve. If he can't cut it in Kansas City, where can he cut it? Don't bother with him in mixed leagues. (Updated 1/19/10)
