(3/23/13) The Mariners released starting pitcher Jon Garland and first baseman Mike Jacobs on Saturday. Garland and Jacobs both requested their releases, MLB.com reports.

| Jacobs inks deal with Seattle |

(1/3/13) MLB.com's Greg Johns reported on Thursday that the Mariners have singed Mike Jacobs to a minor league deal and invited him to spring training. Jacobs played in 13 games with Arizona last season, hitting .211 and driving in two runs. His best season came in 2008, when he hit 32 home runs for the Marlins.

| After a full season away from the majors, Mike Jacobs -- who hit 32 home runs for the Marlins in 2008 and then served a 50-game HGH suspension in 2011 -- made a cameo for the Diamondbacks at the end of last season, hitting .211 in 19 at-bats. Jacobs, 32, has averaged 20 home runs over the last two seasons in the hitter-friendly PCL, but his prospects for catching on with a team seem dim, as Jacobs has not only declined in performance, but is tainted with the HGH usage, as well.
