David Ross takes grounders at third
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/29/13) Red Sox backup catcher David Ross took some ground balls at third base Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports. He could be preparing for an emergency.

Little is known why the Red Sox would have Ross take grounders at third. Will Middlebrooks is nearing a return. Ross is batting .180 on the year for Boston over 50 at-bats with four homers and five RBI.

David Ross wearing protective cap under helmet
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/25/13) Red Sox catcher David Ross, who recently returned from the 7-day disabled list for a concussion, will be wearing a Kevlar protective cap under his batting helmet for at least a week until he gets his new helmet with Kevlar inside, according to MLB.com.

"I feel like an idiot with that thing on," Ross joked after playing in his first game since May 11. "I keep putting my mask on, because I don't want to walk around with it. I'm getting some alterations to my helmet, but in the meantime, I'm going to wear that. It's a little extra protection."

Ross was 0 for 5 with five strikeouts Saturday against the Indians.

"I was able to work through the game with no dizziness, nothing like that," he said. "Nothing out of the ordinary, other than swinging and missing. We've got to figure out a way to fix that."
Red Sox activate David Ross
by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(5/24/13) The Red Sox have activated catcher David Ross from the seven-day concussion disabled list, the Boston Globe reports.

Ross has been out since May 11. He will return to a backup role behind Jarrod Saltalamacchia. He's hitting .209/.320/.512 in 43 at-bats, including four home runs.

David Ross doubles in rehab game
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/23/13) Red Sox catcher David Ross (concussion) went 1 for 3 with one double, one RBI and one run Thursday as he kicked off a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland. Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday the team planned to activate Ross after playing one rehab game, according to the Boston Globe.
David Ross might be back this weekend
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/22/13) Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday he's hopeful backup catcher David Ross (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland Thursday, according to WEEI.com.

“David Ross, we’re hopeful he will be in Portland (Thursday) to get some at-bats," Farrell said. "We’ll just have to go through the normal protocol with MLB when it comes to concussions. So there’s some lengthy paperwork as you might expect to get that taken care of. But we’re hopeful that he’ll be back for us during the Cleveland series (May 23-26)."
