| David Ross's concussion symptoms worsen |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Red Sox catcher David Ross, who was placed on the 7-day disabled list for a concussion Sunday, experienced a worsening of his symptoms Monday, WEEI.com reports.
Ross remains in Boston and it is uncertain when he'll be ready to be activated off the DL.
"We’re still taking this very much day to day. He’ll get re-examined in Boston over the next couple of days before rejoining us in Minnesota," manager John Farrell said. "There’s no template on these, when the symptoms start to progress.
"Yesterday was a tougher day for him with some of those symptoms, so we’ve got to work off him in this. He’ll be fully evaluated in Boston. Where we go from there will be dependent upon the diagnosis and the recommendations of the doctors there."

| David Ross returns to lineup Thursday |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Red Sox catcher David Ross returned to the starting lineup Thursday against the Twins after sitting out Wednesday with a quadriceps injury. Ross is batting .462 (6 for 13) with one double, three home runs, three RBI and five walks in his last five games.

| After four years of impressive slugging percentages during 150-at-bat stints as the backup to Brian McCann in Atlanta, David Ross moves on to Boston in 2013, where he may have an even harder time securing regular at-bats. Not only does he have to contend with last year's starter, another former backup to McCann in Jarrod Saltalamacchia, but he also has to watch out for up-and-comer Ryan Lavarnway and (perhaps) free agent signee Mike Napoli. Of those, Ross figures to be the one most often replacing Saltalamacchia behind the plate, but what good will another 150 at-bats do him? He has pop, but Ross is no more than a late-round pick in AL-only leagues that require the use of two catchers. (Updated 1/8/13) |
