Bochy: Freddy's a ways away: According to the San Jose Mercury News, Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez had an epidural shot on Wednesday and can't do anything baseball related for a few days. An MRI on his shoulder showed inflammation. Hes a ways away, to be honest, manager Bruce Bochy said. I really dont think about him a lot until he gets close. Nothing against Freddy, but Ive got 25 guys here. (Updated 05/16/2012)
Injury Report
Shoulder, back - 15-day DL. Out until at least early June (Updated - 5/16/12)
Fantasy Analysis
Sanchez has not played in more than 111 games since 2008 and it seems unlikely that will change in 2012. Sanchez hits for a nice average, but at this stage of his career he's too injury prone to have much Fantasy value. Only owners in NL-only formats should stash Sanchez in hopes he returns before the All-Star break. (Updated 05/16/2012).

03/22/2012 23:59 Thursday's injury report: Dustin Pedroia OK after leaving game
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was taken out of Thursday night's game with the Yankees after being hit in the forearm, but manager Bobby Valentine said it was a precautionary measure. Also, new Reds closer Ryan Madson may have suffered a setback.
Aside from his 2006 campaign in which he won the NL batting title, Freddy Sanchez has settled into a remarkably consistent, if unexciting, pattern. He routinely hits around .290 with some doubles power, but he walks infrequently. Over the last three years, injuries have also been a part of Sanchez's formula, and he missed more than half of the 2011 season with a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. Sanchez is expected to be ready for the beginning of spring training, when he will re-assume the role of starting second baseman. Even if he can remain healthy for a whole season, Sanchez is really only helpful in Fantasy for batting average and runs scored, and even in those categories, he is not a top producer. He is mainly an option for owners in NL-only leagues, though he could be worth a late-round pick in deeper mixed leagues as well. (Updated 1/5/12)
