| Jayson Nix with anther two-hit game |
by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com (5/13/13) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix had a productive day at the plate during Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Indians. Nix had two hits in a 7-0 win, including an RBI single in the seventh inning.
He also singled in the first inning and finished 2 for 4 with a walk and pair of runs scored.
Nix, who has notched at least two hits in three of his last four games, is hitting .314 (11 for 35) with three doubles and two RBI over during the month of May (10 games).

| Jayson Nix working at first base |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/4/13) Yankees utility man Jayson Nix, who did not start Saturday against Oakland with Chris Nelson seeing time at third base, was on the field before the game working at first base, the Journal News reports.
Nix has never played first base in the major leagues, though he's played just about every other position. The Yankees would love to get a right-handed hitting option with Lyle Overbay struggling against left-handed pitchers.

| Jayson Nix gives way to Chris Nelson |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/4/13) The Yankees started newly acquired Chris Nelson at third base Saturday against Oakland. That left Jayson Nix, who had been seeing starts in Kevin Youkilis' absence, on the bench.
Nix, 30, is batting .239 in 71 at-bats this season with a homer and six RBI. He's on a three-game hitting streak in which he's gone 4 for 11 with a double and two RBI.

| Time to add Jayson Nix in AL-only formats |
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer (4/30/13) With Jon Heyman reporting that Kevin Youkilis is likely headed to the DL, AL-only players -- even those who don't own Youkilis -- may want to add Jayson Nix, his Yankees replacement.
Nix is hitting just .217 with one home run this season, but he has started 10 consecutive games, with a .250 average and three runs scored in that run. It isn't the most impressive line, and Nix doesn't really boast a stellar track record (although he was a promising prospect several years ago), but manager Joe Girardi seems to like him, so you'll be getting an everyday third baseman who has shortstop eligibility; Nix's 60 at-bats are already more than Travis Snider, Conor Gillaspie, and Ryan Roberts.
Nix had eight home runs and 10 steals in 313 at-bats over the last two years -- essentially half a season's worth of at-bats playing sparingly and not allowed to get into a groove. With regular playing time, Nix could be a decent short-term contributor while boasting valuable shortstop eligibility.

| Jayson Nix seeing everyday playing time |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/29/13) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix may have been the biggest benefactor of Kevin Youkilis dealing with a back injury. Nix has seen everyday playing time since Youk has been out.
Starting Monday against Houston, Nix has started at third base in the last seven consecutive games. Over his last six games as a starter, Nix has gone 6 for 20 (.300), though there were no RBI or extra-base hits over that span.
Nix has made 16 starts on the season for the Yankees and is batting .232 with a homer and four RBI. That said, he's also struck out 18 times and has only one hit for extra bases.

| Jayson Nix appeared in 74 games for the Yankees in 2012, hitting a career-high .243, with four home runs and six steals. His value lies in his versatility, as he played second base, short stop, third base and left field. With Kevin Youkilis and Derek Jeter not exactly the pictures of perfect health, it won't be out of the question to see Nix play his way into about 150-200 at-bats, but anything else is probably not possible, as a major injury to any Yankee will likely result in a high-profile move, as opposed to plugging Nix in for a month or more as a starter. A former first-round pick, Nix has no value in Fantasy for 2013. (Updated 1/2/13) |
