| Jayson Nix contributes for Yankees |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/16/13) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix drove in a run Saturday against the Angels. Nix went 1 for 4 with a stolen base in the game.
He has 10 stolen bases this season without getting caught. That said, Nix has an ugly .249 batting average with only one home run and 18 RBI over 185 at-bats.
Nix has hit in nine of his last 10 games but is still just 10 for 38 (.263) over that stretch with four RBI.

| Jayson Nix hitting second |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (6/13/13) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix has been moved to the two-hole Thursday against the Athletics.
Nix has split his time evenly among hitting second, sixth, eighth and ninth this year. He is hitting .250/.316/.302 in 172 at-bats.

| Jayson Nix has AL-only value |
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer (6/10/13) Yankees shortstop/third baseman Jayson Nix is having a better season than people may realize. Over 164 at-bats this year (more than David Freese, Michael Bourn, Emilio Bonifacio, or Adam Lind), Nix has a .256 average with eight stolen bases. And he's been even better recently, with a .314 average and six steals in his last 15 games along with an average of 12.8 Fantasy Points per week over the last five scoring periods.
Nix won't blow you away with his numbers, but he can be a serviceable shortstop in deeper leagues -- with third base eligibility -- and does have some untapped power potential (although more along the lines of five home runs than 15). For an AL-only owner looking to pick up some lineup-sustaining glue while dealing with injury or underperformance, Nix could be a solid option as a deep league add.

| Jayson Nix with anther two-hit game |
by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com (5/13/13) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix had a productive day at the plate during Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Indians. Nix had two hits in a 7-0 win, including an RBI single in the seventh inning.
He also singled in the first inning and finished 2 for 4 with a walk and pair of runs scored.
Nix, who has notched at least two hits in three of his last four games, is hitting .314 (11 for 35) with three doubles and two RBI over during the month of May (10 games).

| Jayson Nix working at first base |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/4/13) Yankees utility man Jayson Nix, who did not start Saturday against Oakland with Chris Nelson seeing time at third base, was on the field before the game working at first base, the Journal News reports.
Nix has never played first base in the major leagues, though he's played just about every other position. The Yankees would love to get a right-handed hitting option with Lyle Overbay struggling against left-handed pitchers.

End of an era in baseball in sight as Yankees' losing streak continues
We knew these banged-up and recycled Yankees would have a different feel. But the more names manager Joe Girardi writes into an increasingly fluid lineup, the harder it hits home: Without Jeter and Co., the Yankees will be just another team.

| Jayson Nix appeared in 74 games for the Yankees in 2012, hitting a career-high .243, with four home runs and six steals. His value lies in his versatility, as he played second base, short stop, third base and left field. With Kevin Youkilis and Derek Jeter not exactly the pictures of perfect health, it won't be out of the question to see Nix play his way into about 150-200 at-bats, but anything else is probably not possible, as a major injury to any Yankee will likely result in a high-profile move, as opposed to plugging Nix in for a month or more as a starter. A former first-round pick, Nix has no value in Fantasy for 2013. (Updated 1/2/13) |
