Hardy gets few days to rest: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy was scheduled to get a planned day off Wednesday against the Red Sox, but it became a necessity after manager Buck Showalter said the veteran's shoulder has been "barking." Hardy will now get two days of rest coupled with Thursday's off day. Robert Andino made his second start at shortstop on Wednesday. (Updated 05/23/2012)

Shoulder - Questionable for May 25 vs. Kansas City (Updated - 5/23/12)
Fantasy Analysis
Hardy had a shoulder issue late in spring training and has been bothered by shoulder injuries throughout his career. But it doesn't sound like this is a major situation right now and the Orioles are doing the right thing by giving Hardy a couple days to rest. Hardy is batting .305 with six homers, seven doubles and 15 RBI in 21 May games. He's finally on track offensively after a slow April. Hardy is a viable Fantasy start in all formats when healthy. Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, Adam Jones homered and the Baltimore Orioles beat CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees 5-2 Tuesday night.
J.J. Hardy's first season in Baltimore appeared to be an unqualified success. After missing a month early in the year, Hardy went on a season-long power binge, hitting 30 home runs with 80 RBI in 129 games. It would be tempting to chalk up Hardy's increased power to his new homer-friendly digs, but there are several reasons to doubt that reasoning and to question his future power output. Hardy's first five seasons were with the Brewers, who also have a launching pad for a home park, and last year, Hardy hit equal numbers of homers on the road and at home. Also, several of Hardy's homers were short-distance jobs that just made it out of the park. In other words, we may have just seen Hardy's career year. Given that he doesn't walk, steal bases or hit for a high average, Hardy could be in for a serious fall in 2012. Despite last year's gaudy stats, owners can wait until the mid-to-late rounds to grab Hardy. (Updated 1/27/12)
