Mets' Kelly Johnson belts game-tying home run on Thursday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8/28/15) Mets second baseman Kelly Johnson had one hit in six at-bats on Thursday against the Phillies, but it was a key hit. Johnson launched a game-tying, solo home run in the fifth inning, knotting the score up at 5-5. The Mets would go on to win the game 9-5 in 13 innings.

The home run was Johnson's third since coming over in a trade at the end of July. He has been mired in a bit of a slump recently, as he was 6 for his last 24 coming into play on Thursday.

Kelly Johnson goes 2 for 6, homers in Mets debut on Saturday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/25/15) Playing in his first game with the Mets, Kelly Johnson went 2 for 6 with a solo home run in the 15-2 thrashing of the Dodgers on Saturday.

Johnson started at second base and hit cleanup in his Mets debut, and he belted his ninth home run in the fifth inning. He also singled and scored earlier in the game as part of an impressive start with his new club.

Johnson has been hitting the ball well lately, batting .324 with three home runs over his past 10 games.

Mets acquire Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson in four-player deal with Braves

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/24/15) The Mets and Braves have finalized a deal on Friday, CBS Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports. The Braves will send infielder Juan Uribe and infielder/outfielder Kelly Johnson to the Mets. In exchange, the Mets will part with minor league right-handers John Gant and Rob Whalen.

The Mets have been said to be looking for offensive help, and with third baseman David Wright out for the foreseeable future, Uribe could make for a decent stopgap at the hotcorner. Uribe, who was already dealt once this season, is batting .272 with eight home runs this season. He plays a steady defense and could be moved around the diamond if Wright returns.

Johnson, meanwhile, has experience in left field where the Mets also have a rather large need, though they did just recall outfield prospect Michael Conforto on Friday. Johnson is hitting .275 with nine homers on the year.

Both sluggers are scheduled to be free agents this offseason.

Gant is a 22-year-old originally from Savannah, Georgia. He was a 21st-round draft pick by the Mets in 2011. The youngster owns a 3.52 ERA between Class A and Double-A this season.

Whalen, 21, was drafted in the 12th round of the 2012 draft. He is 4-5 with a 3.36 ERA while pitching with Class A St. Lucie this year.

Braves' Kelly Johnson returns to lineup for Wednesday matinee

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/22/15) Kelly Johnson is back at first base and batting third in the lineup for the Braves' series-finale with the Dodgers on Wednesday. Johnson had missed the last two games dealing with flu-like symptoms.

Johnson is 5 for 16 with a home run and five RBI over his last six ballgames.

Braves' Kelly Johnson (illness) unable to start on Tuesday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/21/15) Braves first baseman Kelly Johnson remains out of the starting lineup on Tuesday due to flu-like symptoms. Johnson was unable to play on Monday due to the illness, and he'll be sidelined at least one more game.

Chris Johnson will handle first base on Tuesday against the Dodgers.
