Fantasy Analysis
Barmes has not produced much over the last two seasons, but in 2009, he hit 23 home runs for the Rockies. The potential for power, if not batting average, is still there, making Barmes a potential target in deeper mixed leagues and NL-only formats. (Updated 11/21/2011).

01/25/2012 10:56 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates made great strides (for them) in 2011, so what does the 2012 campaign have in store for their fans and Fantasy owners? Our al Melchior puts Pittsburgh under the Fantasy microscope.
Clint Barmes signed a two-year deal with the Pirates in the offseason and will step in as their starting shortstop. He had the same role for the Astros in 2011, batting .244 with 12 homers and 39 RBI while seeing action in 123 games. He was able to raise his average and power from the year before but did not have many opportunities to drive in runs playing for a bad Houston team. Barmes will be surrounded by more talent in Pittsburgh in 2012, but it looks as though his days of hitting 20-plus homers are gone. Since he will see steady at-bats, though, consider the 32-year-old a viable option in NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 1/12/12)
