Seay undergoes shoulder surgery
(9/17/10) Detroit RP Bobby Seay underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder on Friday, according to MLB.com. He's been sidelined since spring training when it was discovered he had a partial tear of his left labrum. The projected recovery timetable for Seay to start a throwing program is in four months, with hopes of returning sometime in 2011. The original recovery time was expected to be at least a year. He attempted rehab and got multiple opinions before having surgery, but could not throw pain-free sessions.
Seay done for most of next 2 years
(8/11/10) Tigers RP Bobby Seay will undergo reconstructive surgery to repair his injured left shoulder, reports MLB.com on Wednesday. That procedure could take up to a year or more to recover from before he gets back on a major-league mound. The surgery has yet to actually be scheduled, however.
Seay still weighing his options
(7/21/10) Tigers RP Bobby Seay, on the 60-day disabled list due to a torn rotator cuff, is debating whether or not to undergo reconstructive surgery that would end his season. According to MLB.com, Seay has visited renowned orthopedists Dr. Lewis Yocum and Dr. Craig Morgan in July while rehabbing his shoulder. If he chooses to go under the knife, Seay's recovery would last about 12 months.
Seay not throwing pain-free
(6/24/10) Tigers RP Bobby Seay, who is recovering from a left rotator cuff tear, has been throwing from farther distances but is still not throwing pain-free, according to MLB.com. The left-hander has been playing catch from 90 feet, up from 60 feet, but head athletic trainer Kevin Rand wants Seay to get to the point where he doesn't feel discomfort in his arm. "We're going to see how it plays," Rand said. "He's still having some discomfort, so it's a question of how [much]. He's trying to work through it at 90 feet right now." Seay injured his arm in spring training and opted for rehab rather than surgery.
Seay cleared to throw
(6/7/10) The Sports Xchange reports Tigers RP Bobby Seay, trying to avoid rotator cuff surgery, has been cleared to begin throwing from 45 feet while he rehabs in Lakeland, Fla. "Bobby will throw from 45 feet again this week in four sessions," Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said. "It's the first step back. Hopefully, he will be able to build up his arm strength and we can get him back." Seay, 31, was 6-3 with a 2.45 ERA in 67 games in 2009. He is on the 60-day disabled list.
