Willingham ready for switch: New Minnesota OF Josh Willingham said he is eager for the challenge of moving to right field for the upcoming season, according to MLB.com. Willingham signed a three-year contract with the Twins last December after playing with Oakland last year. "Hopefully this spring I'll just get a lot of reps out there and get comfortable," Willingham said Friday. "That's the goal. Playing on the opposite end of the field, it's different, the way the balls come off the bat, so it'll just take a little bit of time to get used to." (Updated 01/28/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Willingham will have to adapt to another position after serving in left field for the majority of the 2011 season with the Athletics. He has started only 33 games in right field over his eight-year career. But Willingham still remains a strong power source and clubbed a career-high 29 home runs last season. He moves to spacious Target Field, but is still worthy of a selection in the later rounds of most Fantasy drafts for the upcoming year. (Updated 01/28/2012).

01/31/2012 12:58 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Oakland Athletics
The Athletics became mainstream in recent months thanks to Hollywood, but the roster taking shape for 2012 is nothing to write home about. Our Scott White puts Oakland under the microscope.
Josh Willingham is the latest in a long line of OPS specialists to struggle with OPS as soon as he joins the organization that values it the most. Even with a career-high 29 homers, he produced his lowest OPS (.810) for a full season. His .246 batting average was also a new low, and his 150 strikeouts were by far a new high. It's as if he looked around the Oakland locker room, saw he was about the only real source of power on the team and, therefore, began swinging out of his shoes. Hopefully, he doesn't do the same in Minnesota, because after signing a three-year deal with the Twins this offseason, he'll be joining another less-than-stellar lineup in another pitcher's park. A return to form for Joe Mauer or Justin Morneau would take some of the pressure off and hopefully allow Willingham to get back to doing what he did in Washington, producing an OPS in the .850 range with 20-25 homers. Those numbers would potentially make him a No. 3 Fantasy outfielder, but because of the down season and his propensity for injury -- he's averaging just 121.3 games over his last four seasons -- he'll be no more than a late-rounder on Draft Day.
