Preseason Outlook

After capturing the hearts of Braves fans as the hometown hero in his first three years in the majors, which included two 100-RBI campaigns, Francoeur fell off the map in 2008, even spending a week in the minors. When his performance didn't improve in 2009, the Braves ignored sentiment and dumped him on the Mets for Ryan Church. The move inspired him in ways the Braves' tough love never did. He hit .311 with 10 home runs in 289 at-bats for the Mets, showing he still has something to offer in Fantasy. He might even reach 100-RBI plateau again if David Wright, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran return to form. The best approach to take with Francoeur is to accept him for what he is. He won't hit .300 with 30 homers, and he won't walk a lick. But if he hits .280 with 20 homers and 90 RBI, he's worth a late-round pick in Fantasy. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky with him. He is only 26, after all. (Updated 1/19/10)
