Contreras has been rehabilitating from Tommy John surgery at three different levels. He has thrown six innings and allowed three runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Expect him to take a spot in the Pirates bullpen, perhaps as a multi-inning reliever.

"He was in good form," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He will have two days down, and we'll see how he feels. Then he'll either get another opportunity to pitch [with Indianapolis] or be activated here."
