Mets cut Carrasco loose: Mets relief pitcher D.J. Carrasco has had a disappointing year-plus with the team since signing a two-year contract with them last offseason, and after giving up a home run to Todd Frazier in the eighth inning in Wednesdays 6-3 loss to the Reds, the team announced they were designating the 35-year-old for assignment. Carrasco, who has a 6.11 ERA in 46 appearances with the team dating back to last season, expects to be granted free agency. "It was pretty self-explanatory," he told ESPN.com. "I would have done the same thing if I was the GM." The team is promoting left-handed reliever Robert Carson from Double-A Binghamton to take his place on the roster. (Updated 05/16/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
There appeared to be some friction between Carrasco on Tuesday after he hit Ryan Braun with a pitch and forced manager Terry Collins to remove David Wright from the game to protect him from retribution. Collins told reporters he believed Carrasco did not do it on purpose, however Collins seemed to be upset that he put him in that situation. Combined with his struggles, and it is no surprise that Carrascos time with the team is over. He is just a middle reliever, so even if he catches on with another team, Carrasco should be ignored in all Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/16/2012).
