White Sox DH Adam LaRoche going through another slow start
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(4/12/15) The opening month of the season has rarely been kind to White Sox DH/first baseman Adam LaRoche, a fact the veteran knows all to well, according to MLB.com, but back-to-back home runs suggest LaRoche may be warming up.
Entering Sunday, LaRoche was hitting just .222 with 35 homers and .316 on-base and .400 slugging percentages in the first month of the season, numbers that all represent monthly lows for the 12-year player.
"I've had a lot of years where it has taken me a minute to get going," LaRoche said.
After LaRoche notched his first home run of the season Saturday, he added another solo shot in the third inning of the Sox's game Sunday against the Twins.
White Sox shuffle Garcia, Ramirez, LaRoche vs. LHP Duffy
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(4/8/15) White Sox manager Robin Ventura shuffled his batting order Wednesday night against left-hander Danny Duffy. He moved outfielder right fielder Avisail Garcia to cleanup, with shortstop Alexei Ramirez at the No. 5 spot and DH Adam LaRoche at the No. 6 spot.
Garcia is a .277 lifetime hitter against left-handed pitchers.
White Sox 1B Adam LaRoche not panicking over spring numbers
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/31/15) White Sox first baseman Adam LaRoche hasn't had a very good showing at the plate this spring, batting .186 with 14 strikeouts in 15 games. However, LaRoche said there is no cause for concern since his spring numbers never look pretty.
“My swing is one where it seems to take me the full spring training and some years past that to get it dialed in,’’ LaRoche said, per the Chicago Sun-Times. “I can remember only two or three springs where with a week left I felt really good.
“The good news is I’ve been there a lot, so there is no need to panic. It comes and goes here for a while. But I’ll be good.’’
White Sox expecting Adam LaRoche, Adam Eaton back Friday
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(3/18/15) White Sox manager Robin Ventura is giving some of his players the day off to rest. With Adam Eaton dealing with an illness and Adam LaRoches sporting an ice back on his back Wednesday, Ventura wants to make sure his veterans are in a good place for Opening Day, reports CSN Chicago.
"Guys have been going hard, and everybody looks forward to it too," Ventura said. "You sit there and play all these games in a row, and it’s a time for a shift of focus, too. It’s a time for our guys to clear their minds and come back ready to go."
Ventura is expecting both to be back in the lineup Friday.
|2014 Summary: With free agency in his sights, Adam LaRoche bounced back from a miserable 2013 in which he played through nagging injuries, including bone chips in his elbow, to place seventh in the NL in home runs and tie for fifth in RBI. It was an uneven performance -- he hit .307 over his first 65 games and only .218 in his final 75 -- but he maintained a career-high walk rate throughout. His .362 on-base percentage contributed to him having the ninth-most Head-to-Head points per game at a deep position.|
Playing time status: In the market for a first baseman who could allow rising star Jose Abreu to spend some time at DH, the White Sox pounced on LaRoche early in the offseason, bringing him to a park that should help maximize his power. He's been a consistent source of 25-plus homers over the years, which counts for more in today's game than it did at the start of his career. But he is 35, giving the White Sox justification to platoon him if he gets off to a slow start. He hit only .204 against left-handers last year.
2015 Outlook: There's the rub on LaRoche. He's old, and his production has come and gone over the last few years. His performance in the second half last year showed how quickly things can change for him. He's all downside from here, so even though he's been a top-10 performer in both Head-to-Head and Rotisserie two of the last three years, he's better left for the late rounds in mixed leagues.
